Van Laarhoven, Kummer & Rothamer Families

Probably taken in Holland around 1904–1905, on the occasion of Crijfogonus Ambrosius’ First Holy Communion. This estimate assumes he was eight or nine at the time, based on his recorded age of 15 when the family arrived in the United States on October 10, 1911. The family emigrated from Stratum, South Brabant, Netherlands.

Taken after the family’s immigration to the United States in 1911, this photograph includes their adult children, spouses, and grandchildren. According to the accompanying family account, Theodorus was absent because Cornelius disapproved of his finding a bride through a Canadian magazine. The account also states that Theodorus’ wife suffered facial burns after falling into a fireplace.
